Lady Gaga and Pink are set to perform at the 60th anniversary special for the Grammy Awards. The two performers join Childish Gambino and Little Big Town as the first announced acts on the show. Renowned Broadway icon Patti LuPone will also perform on the show, reprising her role in “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.”
Lady Gaga Looks To Steal The Show
Over the years, Lady Gaga has proven to be a hit maker. Her first smash hit was back in 2008. “Just Dance” took the number one spot on the United States, Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom charts. It was certified platinum eight times. As difficult as it was to top “Just Dance,” Lady Gaga did so with “Poker Face.”
The hit peaked at number one on the charts in nine countries. It was also certified diamond by the RIAA. Another massive hit made by Lady Gaga is “Bad Romance.” The RIAA certified the platinum hit 11 times. The song was a number one hit in six countries.
Pink Brings Fire To Grammy Awards
Not to be outdone as a performer is Pink. Her debut album, “Take Me Home” is two-time platinum certified by the RIAA. Pink’s sophomore effort would prove to be her most successful one. “Missundaztood” earned five platinum plaques from the RIAA. The album sold over 12 million copies worldwide.
She has gone on to add several more platinum certifications to her resume. Through the years, Pink has had numerous hits such as “So What” and “Raise Your Glass.” The song “Just Give Me a Reason,” was nominated for two Grammy Awards back in 2014.
Grammy Awards Details
The 60th anniversary show for the Grammy Awards will take place on Jan. 28. For the first time in 15 years, the event is going to be held in New York. Madison Square Garden is set to host the festivities. The awards will air live on CBS starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. The show is expected to conclude at 11 p.m. It’ll be hosted by James Corden.
There will be plenty of eyes on Jay-Z this year. He is going into the Grammy Awards with eight nominations. West coast phenom Kendrick Lamar is right behind him with seven. Bruno Mars had another successful year and he has found himself with six nominations.
Gambino has five along with SZA, Khalid, and No I.D. Lady Gaga and Pink are both being nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance. The song that got Lady Gaga the nomination is “Million Reasons,” while Pink’s “What About Us” snagged her a nomination. There are seven artists who have four nominations. That number increases to 14 when we get to three nominations. There’s a whopping 82 nominees up for two awards.
The 2018 Grammy Awards underwent some significant changes. First off, the voting process is different from previous years. Votes are now cast online instead of a paper ballot. This was done in an attempt to avoid fraudulent votes.
This also gives touring artists more flexibility. In an effort to show more appreciation for the men and women behind the scenes, all music creators credited with at least 33 percent playing time on an award-winning album will be eligible to receive a Grammy for Album of the Year. The Nominations Review Committees have now been implemented in three genres.
Those genres are rap, contemporary instrumental, and new age fields. Definition of an album has also been expanded in three genres. Those are classical, dance, and jazz fields. If an album has 15 minutes of total play time, it must have five distinct tracks to be eligible.
