Shape of You- Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran, UK singer-songwriter, has been recording music since 2004. As his popularity in Europe grew, he found opportunities with One Direction and Taylor Swift, eventually securing his place in the US charts. “Shape of You”, released in early 2017, became one of the top songs of 2017, with its upbeat pop rhythm and acoustics.
2. Human- Rag‘n’Bone Man
Baritone voiced Rag’n’Bone Man is new to US charts. His single “Human” was released in July 2016 and his debut album released in February 2017. “Human” starts slow and rhythmic, developing into a song with Rag’n’Bone Man’s deep voice at the forefront. “Human” has been featured in movie trailers and television shows, adding intensity to any scene featuring it.
3. Havana- Camila Cabello FT Young Thug
Camila Cabello started her career in the popular group Fifth Harmony. Now a solo artist, Cabello will soon release her debut album Camila. Her single, “Havana” featuring rapper Young Thug, was released in August 2017 and quickly reached number 2 on the US charts. The Latin-style theme alongside Young Thug’s vocals make this track a club hit.
4. Rockstar- Post Malone FT 21 Savage
Young rapper, Post Malone, earned his stage name in part from a rap name generator. However, his music has been anything but generic. Since 2015, Post Malone has been garnering the attention of record labels and established rap artists. His latest single, “Rockstar”, released in September 2017 immediately reached the top of the charts.
5. Feels- Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry
Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, and Katy Perry are all powerhouse artists, and all three coming to together in one song has the potential to be overwhelming. However, that is not the case for “Feels” released in June 2017. Williams and Perry complement each other as the funky rhythm created by Harris plays smoothly in the background.
6. It Ain’t Me- Kygo & Selena Gomez
Kygo, Norwegian DJ and record producer, gained attention in 2014 for his Diplo and Coldplay remixes. He has since collaborated with multiple artists and performed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In February 2017 he released “It Ain’t Me” featuring Selena Gomez. Kygo’s synthesizers and heavy bass enhance Selena’s strong vocals and beautiful lyrics.
7. Paris- The Chainsmokers
The Chainsmokers, comprised of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, have been working together since 2012. The American DJ duo create music that is electropop for easy listening. “Paris” was released in January 2017 and has a down tempo melody that makes for a smooth track.
8. Issues- Julia Michaels
Julia Michaels started her career as a songwriter and has written for Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony. It was not until recently that her career as a solo artist began, with “Issues” released in January 2017. The soft instrumentation contrasting against Michael’s vocal range, makes this an emotionally, raw song.
9. Stay- Zedd & Alessia Cara
Established DJ and producer, Zedd, is no stranger to the top of the charts. He has been paving his way as a top DJ since 2010. Alessia Cara has also proven herself as a successful solo artist recently. “Stay” was released in February 2017 and showcases Cara’s diverse style and Zedd’s capabilities as an electronic music producer.
10. Too Good at Goodbyes- Sam Smith
English singer-songwriter, Sam Smith, has been creating his compelling music since 2012, and topping US charts for the past few years. His latest release, “Too Good at Goodbyes” proves that Smith is not slowing down yet. Known for his powerful vocals and moving lyrics, “Too Good at Goodbyes” stays true to Smith’s style.
